Microsoft has announced a redesigned Xbox app for Windows that is already up to 60% faster when launching. The update also speeds up the Home, Store, and Game Pass pages, and it is rolling out first to Xbox Insiders before a wider release.
Xbox app changes on PC
The app update is meant to make the Windows version simpler to use. Microsoft says the refreshed design is built to make it easier to find games, connect with friends, and play. It also says in-app windows can appear up to 65% faster when they pop up. The company has also reorganized the library with simpler navigation options and updated filters, along with more ways to customize what appears there.
Friends, search, and settings get a cleanup
Microsoft says the friends and social features have been enhanced as part of the same update. The search bar and its results have also been cleaned up, along with the game cards and settings pages. The changes are part of a broader redesign for the app on PC, and they are already available to Insiders testing the new build before the full release.
Xbox Cloud Gaming gets a web refresh
Microsoft also confirmed improvements to the Xbox Cloud Gaming web experience. After earlier Insider testing, the update is rolling out to everyone with a new library tab that brings Game Pass and owned streamable content together in one place. The web update also makes better use of larger displays and adds several color options for changing the look.
Microsoft says the cloud refresh will work across all cloud gaming-supported apps, including TVs and VR headsets. The PC app changes and the cloud features are both moving out through the Xbox Insider Program, which people can join if they want to test upcoming features on consoles and PC.
